Field Manual
Everything a new line technician needs to keep the magick flowing: how operations work, what every building wants, what each component does, and which mana combinations will make your afternoon interesting.
Be aware: some energy interactions in this region are beneficial, and some are hazardous. Inspect your routes carefully. The Field Manual has details if you'd like to be surprised less.
Dispatch, AG&W Inc.
Quick start
- Read the briefing. Each operation opens with a memo. It names the goal, your starting budget, and your credit limit.
- Find the sources and customers. Sources glow with the mana they produce. Customers show a ring for their mood. Hover over any buildings to see what they produce or need.
- Draw conduits. Click a source, then click a customer that needs that mana. The conduit routes itself and costs 10gc per hex.
- Mind capacity and distance. A conduit carries 15 mana per day and loses 1 mana for every 5 hexes it travels. Sources make 30 mana a day, so most need two conduits.
- Keep everyone Content. In most operations you win by keeping every customer fully supplied and Content for a set number of days in a row.
- Press C during an operation to open the in-game Field Manual, or come back here for the long version.

The numbers that matter most
Three units appear throughout this manual. Mana measures magical energy of every type. gc (Gold Crowns) measures money. Feels measure how quickly a customer loses patience when it's short.
| Source output | 30 | mana per day (mixed sources: 15 + 15 mana) |
|---|---|---|
| Conduit capacity | 15 / 30 | mana per day, basic / upgraded |
| Conduits per source | 2 | use a Splitter to fan out further |
| Conduits per hex | 2 | on open ground |
| Distance loss | 0.2 | mana per hex (1 mana for every 5 hexes), none on a leg that ends at a Relay Station |
| Conduit cost | 10 / 25 | gc per hex, basic / upgraded |
| Revenue | 2 | gc per mana of demand per day, scaled by supply and mood |
| Furious penalty | −50 | gc per day, per furious customer |
| Refunds | 100% | on anything you built yourself |
Glossary
- Operation
- One level of the campaign: a map, a budget, a goal, and a memo from Dispatch. See Operations.
- Mana
- The unit of magical energy. Arcana, fire, water, earth and gas are all measured in mana, so production, needs and conduit capacity are given in mana per day. See Energy Types.
- Source
- A building that produces mana, such as a Ley Line Nexus or Fire Geyser. See Sources.
- Customer
- A building that needs mana and pays for it. Some screens call them consumers. See Customers.
- Hybrid
- A building that needs some mana and produces another kind, but only while all of its needs are met. See Hybrids.
- Conduit
- A ley line you build between two buildings or components. Also called a line. See Building conduits.
- Capacity
- The most mana a conduit can carry per day: 15 mana basic, 30 mana upgraded.
- Dissipation
- Mana lost to distance: 0.2 mana per hex. See Distance and dissipation.
- gc (Gold Crowns)
- AG&W's currency, written gc. You spend it on construction and upkeep and earn it from customers. See Money.
- Upkeep
- The daily running cost of a component. Conduits have no upkeep.
- Credit limit
- How far below zero your budget may go. Reaching it ends the operation. See Money.
- Feels
- The unit of a customer's sensitivity. Each day a customer is short, it gains frustration equal to its shortfall in mana times its feels. See Customer satisfaction.
- Satisfaction
- A customer's mood, from Content to Furious, shown by the ring around it. See Customer satisfaction.
- Contentment streak
- The count of consecutive days on which every customer is fully supplied and Content. Most operations are won by filling it.
- Interaction
- A reaction between two different mana types whose conduits share a hex or sit side by side. See Interactions.
- Eruption
- A hazard interaction going off. Every exposed conduit in the zone loses part of its flow for the day. See Eruptions.
- Mixed source
- A source that produces two mana types at once. See Mixed sources.
- Raw mixed line
- A conduit carrying two mana types together, straight out of a mixed source. See Raw mixed and merged conduits.
- Merged conduit
- An upgraded conduit carrying two mana types, made by feeding two different types into a Splitter. It follows the same rules as a raw mixed line. See Splitter.
- Insulated conduit
- A conduit leaving a Filter. It carries one type at half capacity, never takes part in interactions, and is immune to eruptions. See Insulated conduits.
- Hardened
- An upgraded conduit takes only half the loss from an eruption. See Upgraded conduit.
- Usual input
- The flow a Battery expects to receive. When the input drops below it, the Battery covers the gap from its charge. See Battery.
