Where the ley lines cross. The realm's supply of raw magic.
Field Manual
Every building you'll route mana to or from. Numbers here are each building's standard values. Operations sometimes adjust a particular building's needs or output, so the in-game tooltip always has the final word.
Sources produce one type of mana, 30 mana per day, forever, for free. They never get frustrated. Since a basic conduit carries 15 mana, it takes two conduits (or one upgraded conduit) to use a source's full output.
Where the ley lines cross. The realm's supply of raw magic.
A vent of elemental fire. Keep gas lines well away.
The only natural water supply on most maps, and hard to replace if it's missing.
A seam of elemental earth. Often far from the customers who need it.
Trapped underground gas. Many maps don't have one, so plan on a hybrid or Transformer.
Three campaign operations (The Filtering Problem, The Intersection and Explosive Neighbors) have sources that produce two types at once: 15 mana of each per day. Operations give them local names (a Mud Spring might be called a bog, for instance), but hovering over one always shows what it produces. Mixed sources never appear in Freelance or Form 27-B jobs.
You have two ways to use one:

Left: a raw mixed line carries both types and reacts with itself. Right: a Filter sends one type on an insulated line. View full size
Mixed sources put out two energy types on one conduit. A raw line can only feed a consumer that needs both. Place a Filter on the hex next to the source to send out just one type.
Field prompt

A mixed source produces two types at once.
A raw Caldera line triggers Magma Vents along its entire length.
A raw Flare Pit line is an Explosion Risk on every hex. Filter it.
A raw Mud Spring line triggers Fertile Growth along its length, which is good news for any Farming Village it feeds.
Customers need mana and pay for it. They only accept the types they need. Keep them supplied or they'll get frustrated, stop paying, and eventually start costing you money.
| Customer | Needs (mana/day) | Pays (gc/day) | Sensitivity (feels) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Farming Village | 5 3 | 16 | 0.5 |
| Market Town | 5 3 | 16 | 1.0 |
| Goblin Bazaar | 4 2 | 12 | 1.0 |
| Wizard Academy | 10 3 2 | 30 | 1.5 |
Patient, reliable folk. Earns 25% more inside a Fertile Growth zone.
Wants arcana and gas, which never react with each other, so its lines can run side by side safely.
Needs fire and gas, which is exactly the pair that explodes. Bring the two lines in from different sides, or filter them.
The best-paying regular customer and the touchiest. Its big arcana demand often needs a conduit of its own.
Hybrids are customers that also produce. They need mana like any customer (and pay for it, and get frustrated without it), but while all of their needs are met they also put out a different type. If any need falls short, production stops completely, and everything downstream goes dark with it.
A tiny sip of water buys a full source's worth of fire. The catch: sensitivity 3.0 makes it the touchiest building in the realm. Never let its water run short.
Turns fire and earth into gas. Its two inputs are the Magma Vents pair, which earns the Forge 30% more but risks eruptions on everything at the Forge's hex, including its own gas output. That gas output also meets the fire input on the Forge's hex, adding an Explosion Risk (and some Mineral Deposits income). Upgrade or filter the gas line to soften the hits.
A calm, cheap gas supply. With sensitivity 0.3 it's the most patient building in the campaign.
Hybrid output follows the same rules as any source: it's split evenly across the hybrid's outgoing conduits, and dissipation still applies on the way out.
Freelance Operations and Custom Requisitions can also generate these customers, which don't appear in the campaign. Each pays total needs × 2gc per day when Content.

Freelance contracts can also include the campaign's regular customers. They never include hybrids or mixed sources.
The hungriest customer there is: four types and a short temper. It can appear on any Freelance or Form 27-B map that has all four of its types. The Overload a Citadel goal in Form 27-B always places one as the target: deliver at least 150% of its total need (34.5 mana against its 23) for the required number of days.
